We built Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana a from-scratch platform for its whole operation: neighbors order the groceries they choose, volunteers pick and load them, and the drive-thru and delivery run on schedule. The state's largest food bank runs on software shaped to how it actually works.
Gleaners is the largest food bank in Indiana, a Feeding America member serving 21 counties and, by its own count, roughly a third of the state's food-insecure neighbors. An operation that size runs on more than a warehouse: online ordering, fulfillment, a drive-thru pantry, and delivery, all at once, every day.
Packaged food-bank and eCommerce tools don't fit an operation that shape, and Gleaners has no internal development team to build one that does. There was also a harder goal underneath the logistics: let neighbors choose their own groceries, with dignity, instead of handing everyone the same pre-packed box.
We built Gleaners a from-scratch suite that runs the whole operation on one platform, designed around how a modern food bank actually works.
Shopping, cart and checkout, credits and gift cards, household management, and pickup or delivery windows, built for ADA compliance and offered in multiple languages.
Picker, stager, and loader roles, pallet loading, label printing, and order management that keep the warehouse floor moving on a busy distribution day.
An order-ahead flow, an on-site order assistant, parking-lot and chute management, and scheduling windows that run the drive-thru pantry end to end.
Health questions, shop-by-recipe, and nutrition tracking, with recipe integrations, so what a neighbor takes home can be chosen around their health, not just their hunger.
It feels truly like a partnership. You are a counterpart.
Erin Cartwright, GleanersThe results are Gleaners' to report, and they've been striking. In the platform's first six months Gleaners logged more than 10,000 orders, and households served in April climbed from 1,235 in 2024 to 2,428 in 2025, nearly double in a single year.
Almost everything we ship runs on the same modern Microsoft stack: proven, supported, and easy to hire for years from now. Cutting edge but never bleeding edge.
The platform connects to the tools Gleaners already runs on: SMS through Twilio for neighbor notifications, and its Microsoft Dynamics ERP for inventory and operations.
Gleaners launched the platform in December 2024 and has run its operation on it ever since. It's built for the way a large, modern food bank actually works, and that way of working isn't unique to one food bank. The foundation we built could extend across the sector, and helping more food banks operate like this is the opportunity we see in the work.
Tell us the challenge in plain language. We scope the work on complexity, commit to the figure in the room, and stay for the years after launch.
