Summertime around WDD means ushering in a batch of superstar interns, and Jarrett Alexander is no exception! Jarrett joins us from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, where he studies computer science and mathematics. The incoming junior calls Brownsburg home, and is obsessed with legend car racing and dirt biking (I learned a lot about both during our interview!). And now, some Q&A with our newest intern —
What inspires you?
Innovation and problem solving. Finding solutions to big problems, to things we don’t even know we need solutions for.
What’s your favorite gadget?
Probably my phone, a Samsung S7. I had an iPhone when Siri was new and had no problems with it. But when it was time for an upgrade, I was just getting into programming, so I researched other options and read that Android was easier to develop for, which is not true, in my opinion. I do like that I can customize it and make it my own.
Name 3 things you couldn’t live without.
My dirt bike, Spotify, the gym.
Do you have any pet projects?
I love building stuff—more mechanical, less computer science—in my free time. This summer a friend and I are building gates for the dirt bike track. The gates usually require someone to operate them to make them drop. We’re going to automate that.
Any hidden talents?
I’m a good driver! I have great car control. Everyone who races has their own thing and mine is placement. I can put my car where I need it to be.
Favorite video game of all time?
iRacing. It’s the most realistic racing simulator there is, lots of drivers use it to train and prepare for new tracks. I built a computer just for it.
