Summertime around Counterpart means ushering in a batch of superstar interns, and Jarrett Alexander is no exception! Jarrett joins us from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, where he studies computer science and mathematics. The incoming junior calls Brownsburg home, and is obsessed with legend car racing and dirt biking (I learned a lot about both during our interview!). And now, some Q&A with our newest intern —
What inspires you?
Innovation and problem-solving. Finding solutions to big problems, to things we don’t even know we need solutions for.
What’s your favorite gadget?
Probably my phone, a Samsung S7. I had an iPhone when Siri was new and had no problems with it. But when it was time for an upgrade, I was just getting into programming, so I researched other options and read that Android was easier to develop for, which is not true, in my opinion. I do like that I can customize it and make it my own.
Name 3 things you couldn’t live without.
My dirt bike, Spotify, and the gym.
Do you have any pet projects?
I love building stuff—more mechanical, less computer science—in my free time. This summer, a friend and I are building gates for the dirt bike track. The gates usually require someone to operate them to make them drop. We’re going to automate that.
Any hidden talents?
I’m a good driver! I have great car control. Everyone who races has their own thing, and mine is placement. I can put my car where I need it to be.
Favorite video game of all time?
iRacing. It’s the most realistic racing simulator there is; lots of drivers use it to train and prepare for new tracks. I built a computer just for it.
