Every donut box is just one way we say thanks, but it’s the connections behind them that keep us coming back year after year. We’re grateful for every person who’s been part of our story.
The Counterpart Donut Run began on Valentine’s Day, 2014, a day already meant for showing appreciation. That year, we decided to take it up a notch. We decided to make it extra sweet. Back then, we were still known as WDD Software, and we’d spent two decades quietly growing a reputation for great work, thanks in large part to the incredible clients, partners, and friends who believed in us.
So, we made a plan. We ordered dozens (and dozens) of Long’s donuts, labeled them and packed them, and mapped out a delivery route to hand out a little joy.
Then, it snowed. A lot.
5.5 inches, to be exact, the most Indianapolis had ever seen on a Valentine’s Day. Our CEO, Drew, still hit the road that morning in dress shoes and a suit, trudging through slush to make the rounds. The deliveries still happened. And so did the smiles.
That first Donut Run wasn’t meant to be a tradition, but the stories, sugar rushes, and sheer joy that came out of it made it clear: we were onto something.
These days, the tradition is still going strong. Every year, our team puts together a list of clients, partners, new friends, and people we just really admire. Then we split the list, grab our donut orders (sometimes hundreds of them now), and hit the road. It’s our favorite excuse to step away from our screens and show up, donuts in hand, for the people we appreciate the most.
It might look like just a box of donuts, but to us, it’s a box full of gratitude. A reminder that business is built on relationships, and the simplest gestures make sure those we care about know how much they are appreciated.
